Title: The prosthodontic approach to dental trauma - replacing and repairing damaged dental tissues.

Aims:  To review the challenges and solutions of the prosthetic phase of trauma management

Objectives:

  • To reflect on the possible scenarios facing the practitioner following trauma when teeth are failing or have been lost.
  • To reflect on the timings of tooth loss and replacement strageies.
  • To understand the risks and benefits of differing approaches to management.
  • To address what may constitute success in the aesthetic zone and how we may strive for this.

Outcome:
To feel more confident planning the replacement of teeth following trauma.

Biography:
James’s week is split between his role as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester and a Specialist in Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry at Clinic 334 in Wilmslow. In his hospital role he runs the emergency dental clinic and his clinical work largely focuses upon the acute and long term management of dental trauma. He led the development of the Saving Smiles trauma project in Greater Manchester and is chair of the Restorative MCN.
